The Hostel@Acorn by the Sea began as a simple ice house to store ice harvested from nearby Walker Pond in the winter. The ice was packed in saw dust and shipped all over the world. And, it was used to make ice cream in the summer here. Later, summer vacationers entertained themselves in the icehouse turned casino. They were the "Rusticators" who came from Boston, New York, Philadelphia and beyond seeking just this kind of natural, coastal retreat in the summers at the turn-of-the Century. You will become part of our story when you check-in at the Oakland House hotel office (circa 1889). The hostel is just a hop, skip, and a jump away.

The Hostel@Acorn offers 6 private rooms with either twin-, full-, or queen-sized beds or a combination of beds. There is a communal kitchen for fixing your own meals and indoor bathrooms with a hot shower and historic claw foot tub like your great-grandmother used to have. There is a common living/dining room and a third floor library. We have "country WiFi for your email too.
